Walk down the hallway by the gym any morning, and you’re sure to hear the Community School Band practicing away. Above and beyond their regular music classes, once students reach fourth grade, they may choose to participate in band. From learning to assemble their instruments and using proper embouchure to playing in 6/8 time with flats or sharps and accidentals, students master the basics and more.
Beyond the mechanics of their instruments, students learn to listen for balance, texture, color, and mood, which leads to a greater appreciation of music. Students ready for tougher challenges may participate in Jazz Ensemble. The Community School Band and Jazz Ensemble perform at various assemblies and school events.
