Community School takes its commitment to diversity very seriously. Community School believes strongly in the importance of diversity. As the knowledge of our world expands for our students, the need to recognize and appreciate the differences in others also grows. Community School seeks diversity in its student body and has a strong respect for all children. As the children learn to value these differences, they will openly seek out a variety of people and learn from them. This attitude toward others will inspire children to venture from the known to the unknown. We have a Diversity Coordinator on staff, and one of our ongoing goals is to continue promoting diversity at our school.
For the 2008-09 school year, we have:
- 18% students of color
- 51% female student body
- 49% male student body
- 44% of families are dual-income or working single parent
- Families from 35 different zip codes in the Greater St. Louis area
- 12% of students receiving financial aid
Diversity Statement
Community School believes diversity enriches the mind, body, and spirit. We provide an exceptional education by bringing together students, families, faculty and staff from a breadth of ethnicities, races, religions, socio-economic positions, and areas of our city who each offer substantial contributions to the life of the school. Such a community creates a learning environment that is congruent with the world in which we live. The School values a community in which all of its members feel that they are an integral part of a supportive and inclusive school environment.
